Hygienist Services

Good oral hygiene is a natural part of a healthy life. Today it is known that there is an association between oral inflammation and infections and several systemic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease. Prevention and early detection is the key to good oral hygiene and gum health.

The Hygienist will show you how to control plaque and tartar build-up to keep your gums disease free and to prevent decay. If you have tartar that needs removing she will be able to carefully scale it off and treat any gum problems. Most staining can be removed by air polishing the teeth. Many of our patients see the Hygienist on a regular basis.

Gingivitis and Periodontitis

Gingivitis and periodontitis are the most common types of gum disease that affect the supporting structures of the teeth.

Gingivitis, is inflammation of the gum and can be resolved with good oral hygiene measures. Some of the major factors affecting periodontitis include smoking, specific strains of bacteria in the plaque, personal stress levels and family history.

Our hygienist can help you cure your gingivitis and bring under control any periodontal disease affecting your teeth. Treatment depends on the severity of the condition and ranges from teaching you improved oral hygiene technique, to treatment under local anaesthetic for deep cleaning and elimination of infected gum tissue.

Information: Periodontal diseases are initiated by the accumulation of dental plaque, which means that proper and regular cleaning is essential as a preventive action.

Our hygienist can advise you on Nutrition, Fluoride, Smoking and Tooth Whitening.

Information tailored to suit your dental needs and lifestyle will be discussed at your appointment to ensure that you are given the best advice to maintain healthy teeth and gums.
